Broadcasting Editor

Based in Chicago and will work at Chicago Public Radio’s studios.

Status:
Fixed Term, Full Time, with benefits

Job Summary:
Michigan Radio based in Ann Arbor, Chicago Public Radio, and Ideastream Cleveland are teaming up to look at the economic transformation that is needed in the so-called "rustbelt region."

The Editor will lead a team of three reporters and a new media/community producer in the production of long form feature reports, roundtables, occasional spots, web content and other material for the collaboration. The Editor will plan coverage and assign, direct and edit reporters; oversee web content and social media activity; and contribute original reporting as appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Makes assignments and edits all content by reporters and new media producer; provides clear guidance, feedback and supervision to the team.
• Works with Managing Editor and partners on collaborative project planning, including regular editorial discussions and listening sessions.
• Conducts regular editorial calls with members of team.
• Works with new media producer in production of web content and related community events.
• Travels as necessary.
• Conducts regular performance reviews of project team.
• Works collaboratively with station producers, editors and hosts to provide content and program participation as needed. Participates in on-air fundraising as assigned.
• Participates in on-air fund-raising.
• Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the project’s high journalistic standards to ensure that that accuracy, thoroughness, and fairness are central characteristics of all content presented.

Education Required:
College graduate or equivalent experience.

Experience/Skill Required:
• Must have a minimum of three years reporting, producing and editing experience.
• Must have excellent organizational and leadership skills.
• General broadcast knowledge, including audio production and digital editing, important.
• New media skills important, including familiarity with basic social networking tools.
• Thorough knowledge of Great Lakes regional economy and industrial history strongly preferred. Must be familiar with production and digital editing.

• Assists in training/mentoring of interns and other staff as appropriate.
• Participates in on-air fund-raising.

• Must have ability to meet deadlines and take direction.

Account Executive

Michigan Public Media seeks an experienced Corporate Account Representative to solicit and manage corporate account relationships for Michigan Radio. This individual will secure corporate support for programs and events through direct contacts with key senior decision makers in corporations and advertising agencies, and will service accounts to maximize both customer satisfaction and retention.



Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• 3-5 years sales experience preferably in a business to business category, with proven track record of successful negotiating with key decision makers, and meeting and exceeding sales goals; 


• Knowledge of advertising and marketing department and agency functions, services, hierarchies and trends; 


• Personal in-depth knowledge of public radio and television programming; 

 • Strong communication skills that include excellent written and oral presentation skills. Ability to listen well and present a convincing case for support; 


• Highly organized and able to manage multiple prospects and clients in a timely, accurate and effective manner; 


• Strong business marketing analysis skills. Able to recognize and achieve optimal outcomes with given opportunities and available resources; 


• Computer literacy is a must, with proficiency in mobile networking and the use of software applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook and ACT along with the ability to master other software programs as required. Experience in effectively using and developing professional sales and marketing materials and research a plus; 


• Highly energetic, highly self-motivated, strong team player. Must be able to follow direction and also to work independently according to defined departmental needs. 



Minimum Requirements: 



Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary. Experience in media sales, marketing, advertising, public relations, communications or a related field is most desirable. Experience in fund-raising is a plus. Computer proficiency is a requirement.

Videographer

Job Description:

• Provide professional level videographer services for video production. This includes event documentation, multi-camera event production, and EFP acquisition of interviews, and illustrative footage for programming. Operate video recording and mixing equipment. Design and execute professional lighting for video recording, record sound with professional equipment, utilize specialized camera support and movement of equipment such as dollys, steadicams, and jibs;
• Perform technical services at Michigan Production for routine editing, compression, and transfer of media;
• Answer phones, update databases, manage equipment storage area.

Required Experience:

• 7 – 10 years experience in video field production;
• 7 – 10 years experience with studio/remote video lighting & audio;
• Experience with both Standard and High Definition video production equipment;
• 3 -5 years experience with set-up for multi-camera systems in field production applications;
• Working knowledge of video editors, video compression and video postproduction techniques.

Desired Experience:

• Steadicam or equivalent camera support experience;
• Experience with cable or broadcast news gathering;
• Experience with crane or jib equipment;
• Experience with dollies, and other camera tracking equipment;
• Knowledge of Editing & DVD authoring software;
• Experience in digital archiving and video library organization.
