He tried to enter the US from Saudi Arabia with an altered passport, and lied to security officers about why he was carrying a pressure cooker. Al Khawahir will have a bond hearing this afternoon, reports Michigan Radio's Kate Wells.</p><p><strong>Detroit Mayor to make announcement about future</strong></p><p>Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has scheduled an announcement for today at noon. Bing's spokesman Bob Warfield said that Bing would "make a major announcement about his political future." Mullin received $135,900 after taxes last month after she left her old job to run Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus.</p><p>Ficano has fired a part-time employee and placed the county&#39;s corporation counsel and a deputy executive on 30-day suspension after an internal investigation into the severance deal. He earlier<br />defended Mullin&#39;s severance deal, but later said protocol was not followed.</p><p>Federal agents have since gotten involved, serving subpoenas this month seeking records.</p><p>County commissioners are meeting Thursday and looking into the payout to Mullin. Information on these passengers is cross-checked with other databases by the TSA to determine their risk level.</p><p>From the TSA&#39;s <a href="http://www.tsa.gov/press/releases/2011/1004.shtm">press release</a>:</p><blockquote><p>&ldquo;As TSA moves further away from a one-size-fits-all approach, our ultimate goal is to provide the most effective security in the most efficient way possible,&rdquo; said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. &ldquo;By learning more about travelers through information they voluntarily provide, and combining that information with our other layers of security, we can focus more resources on higher-risk and unknown passengers.
