Kwame Kilpatrick’s federal racketeering and extortion convictions may mean the former Detroit mayor will not be able to pay the city approximately $850,000 in restitution in another case.

Monday, Kwame Kilpatrick was convicted on more than 20 counts of racketeering. extortion and other charges. The former mayor faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

In 2008, Kilpatrick agreed to pay a million dollars in restitution as part of a guilty plea to state obstruction of justice charges. He also served time in prison.

DETROIT (AP) — A former high-ranking Wayne County official has been indicted on corruption charges in an investigation of kickbacks tied to a health program.

Michael Grundy is accused of enriching himself by having a contractor inflate invoices and pass him the cash. Grundy was an assistant county executive and director of HealthChoice until he was fired last fall.

A top aide to Wayne County executive Robert Ficano is facing federal extortion and bribery charges

Tahir Kazmi is Wayne County’s Chief Information Officer. He’s been in that job since 2008, though he is currently on leave.

Federal prosecutors charged Kazmi this week with pressuring a county vendor to lie to FBI agents investigating possible corruption in Wayne County government. Kazmi also allegedly demanded cash and expensive trips in return for county contracts.

Trial getting under way in mail truck corruption

DETROIT (AP) - A trial is getting under way in Detroit in a corruption case involving the repair of mail trucks.

Four U.S. Postal Service employees have pleaded guilty, but Greg Gorski of Canton Township is going to trial Monday. He's accused of accepting cash, sports tickets, a minivan and other payoffs from the owner of Metro Diesel in exchange for sending mail vehicles to the Detroit garage.

The indictment also accuses Gorski of receiving $500 in monthly gift cards for restaurants and gas stations.
