Cathy Albro (D) is challenging incumbent Justin Amash (R) for Michigan's 3rd Congressional District.

As we approach Election Day on November 6, Stateside is interviewing congressional candidates around the state about why they're running and their top priorities if elected.

Cathy Albro is the Democratic candidate in Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, which covers most of Kent County, as well as Barry and Ionia Counties. Albro is running against Republican incumbent Justin Amash, who declined an interview with Michigan Radio.

If elected into office, Albro says education is one of her top priorities. Albro was a teacher herself and has worked all over the country to help develop classroom curriculum.

“What I discovered is that many children who deserve the most get the least," said Albro. She says she wants Michigan to join the list of other states with policies ensuring that every child has an equitable education.

Listen to the full interview above to hear the candidate discuss her other policy priorities, including health care and economic equity, as well as what she learned after losing her business and home during the Great Recession.
