Anishinaabe teen prepares to bring her water activism to the world stage

Mar 21, 2018

Tomorrow is World Water Day, and the beginning of the International Decade for Action on Water for Sustainable Development.

That’s also the day a very special speaker will stand before the world leaders of the UN General Assembly, delivering a plea to protect the water.

That speaker is Autumn Peltier, a 13-year-old member of the Wikwemikong First Nation from Manitoulin Island in Ontario. She joined Stateside to discuss how the water that surrounds her home — Lake Huron and the Georgian Bay — affects her life, how water activism runs through her family, how she speaks on behalf of water, and what she plans to say before world leaders at the UN.

Listen above.
