At ArtPod, we love a good party.
If that party also happens to be a jaw-dropping, massive immersive art experience (and did we mention semi-naked people?) with more than 2,000 attendees, some 350 performers, and crazy burlesque, then we really love it.
So grab a cocktail and let us take you inside Theatre Bizarre, the annual masquerade in Detroit's Masonic Temple that draws thousands of people and global attention each year.
And! We get to talk about fashion (yay yay yay), clothes (MORE yay) and Melissa McCarthy. Now, yes, we're pretty over the "Melissa-McCarthy-is-in-an-enormous-freaking-coat on the Elle cover" controversy. Would it have been nice to see her in something a little more celebratory of her full figure? Sure. But she says she loves it and chose it, so ok. It is a great coat.
However. When we hear a smart, in-depth, actually insightful talk about how these brouhahas get at the way women talk about, look at, and value their own bodies, we're in. Add a fascinating overview of how Michigan women are changing those discussions and even better.
That's why we're doing an encore broadcast of Cynthia Canty's Stateside conversation with Amanda Levitt, a Wayne State grad student and the blogger behind fatbodypolitics.com.
