‘Believed’ Podcast Tops Apple Podcast Chart

Believed, the new podcast from Michigan Radio and NPR, topped the Apple Podcast chart earlier this week, just one week after the series launched. Believed looks at how Larry Nassar was able to abuse hundreds of women and girls for decades. This timely and thoughtful limited-run podcast is an intimate look at how a team of women -- a detective, a prosecutor and an army of survivors -- won justice in one of the largest serial sexual abuse cases in U.S. history. It’s also an unnerving exploration of how even well-meaning adults can fail to believe.

Believed has earned a 5 (out of 5) rating on Apple Podcasts since it debuted. Here are just a few of the comments from listeners:

  • “So important for everyone to understand how this could happen.”
  • “This break down is fascinating and enraging – a very important listen.”
  • “This is must-listen reporting for everyone who has a child, knows a child, or was a child.”

Believed is hosted by award-winning Michigan Radio reporters Kate Wells and Lindsey Smith. Wells has extensively covered the Nassar story since allegations first surfaced against the former USA Gymnastics and MSU sports doctor in 2016. As Michigan Radio’s investigative reporter, Smith covered Nassar as well and led the station’s award-winning Flint water crisis coverage.

You can subscribe to Believed on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, NPR One, Pocket Casts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. You can also listen at michiganradio.org/believed
