Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has often sought to entice Chinese business investment in Michigan

Just as Governor Rick Snyder is wrapping up his latest investment trip to China, the Chinese owned vehicle manufacturer S-F Motors has finalized its plans for opening a research and development center outside of Ann Arbor.

The investment of more than $10 million will includes hiring 150 engineering jobs.

"(This) really continues to show that Michigan is at the center of the North American automotive industry," said Josh Hunt, vice-president of business development at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). "Both in terms of the companies that are here and the future of mobility."

The MEDC also awarded SF Motors a $1 million "performance-based" grant. According to Hunt, SF Motors won't receive the grant until it hires all 150 workers.

The jobs are expected to be relatively high-paying engineering positions.

"They just identified their facility and are in the initial stages of the hiring,” Hunt said. "Most of which will take place in the next one-to-three years."

SF Motors' facility is officially located in Pittsfield Township.
