To combat holiday blues, Michigan musician drops EP with Winter Dance Party tour

It’s holiday music for people who maybe aren’t really feeling the holiday spirit.

May Erlewine is getting ready to drop her new EP The Little Things with a tour of winter dance parties all around the state.

The EP’s full of holiday music that works for everyone, but is especially good for anyone who’s having a hard time grooving with the “tidings of comfort and joy” of traditional holiday tunes.

Erlewine told us the songs came from conversations she’s had over the years with people who’ve experienced loss or grief during the holidays and feel isolated because they can’t live up to the merry expectations of the season.

“I kind of wanted to make a little space for that,” she told us. “You know, grief is a nonlinear process. People are dealing with it and the holidays really bring up a reminder of those things that we might not have or that we lost.”

Erlewine said she wanted to make a space for people to “come as you are" and "feel their community around them and the support around them and to remind everybody that we don’t have to be isolated in our grief or disappointment or fear, and that we actually do have a community here.”

“The shows are going to be fun, but also intentional space and safe space for people,” she said.

In our conversation above, Erlewine tells us more about how the album came together and plays for us one of the songs included on the EP, While the World.

You can find all the details on The Little Things, as well as the schedule for winter dance parties by visiting Erlewine’s website.
