Another race we're following is the Flint mayoral race.

Current Flint Mayor Dayne Walling is seeking a four-year term. He's up against Darryl Buchanan, a former Flint city council president and former city administrator.

Michigan Radio's Steve Carmody will be following this race. Carmody has reported that crime in Flint is likely to be the pivotal issue in this election.

But the winner of this race might be overshadowed by a potential state takeover in the form of an emergency manager. Today, Governor Rick Snyder announced that a financial emergency exists in Flint.

That determination could lead to the appointment of an emergency manager for the city.
