The wife of longtime Democratic Congressman John Dingell has won the Democratic primary for the 12th Congressional District.
Debbie Dingell has defeated attorney Raymond Mullins Tuesday and heads into the November general election seeking the seat her husband has held for more than 58 years.
She entered the race after her husband, John Dingell, announced he wasn't going to seek re-election. He is completing the longest congressional career in history after winning a special election in 1955 to replace his father who spent 22 years in the U.S. House.
The 60-year-old Debbie Dingell is chair of the Wayne State University Board of Governors and member of the Democratic National Committee.
The 12th Congressional District includes Ann Arbor, Dearborn and a number of Downriver Detroit communities.
