LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Detroit's Democratic mayor will serve as master of ceremonies for the inauguration of Republican Gov. Rick Snyder and Lt. Gov. Brian Calley in Lansing.

Mayor Mike Duggan joins Snyder and Calley Jan. 1 at the Capitol. Snyder said in a news release that Duggan "has been a great partner in the effort to reinvent" the state and city.

Despite political differences, the pair have worked together on Detroit's bankruptcy case and creation of a regional water department.

Snyder and Calley will greet residents after the ceremony. Other highlights include a performance by the 126th Army Band of the Michigan National Guard and a 19-cannon salute.

The event is free and open to the public.

An inaugural gala will be held later in the evening at the Lansing Center.
