Hillary Clinton made her second stop in Detroit this month, addressing union activists at the Service Employees International Union’s convention on Monday.
Clinton told them the American economy and workplace have changed drastically in recent years, but too many of the policies that govern them haven’t.
She emphasized her support for worker-friendly policies like paid family leave, boosting the minimum wage, and equal pay for women.
“Corporate profits keep going up, and so do everyday living expenses,” Clinton said. “But paychecks for most people still are not going the way they should.”
The Democratic front-runner for president then turned her attention to her GOP rival, Donald Trump.
Clinton denounced Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric, pledging her support for continuing President Obama’s executive orders protecting some undocumented immigrants, as well as “comprehensive immigration reform.”
She said Trump also threatens to “bankrupt American like he bankrupted his companies.”
“We are going to unify the Democratic party and stop Donald Trump!” Clinton said, drawing some of the loudest applause of her speech.
Clinton also applauded her Democratic rival, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, for “challenging us” for the nomination.
She said Sanders’ campaign had put a spotlight on some critical issues, like growing income inequality and the corrupting role of big money in politics.
