A different kind of football rivalry: Manchester United and Liverpool face off at the Big House

book cover of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of United
Fish Out of Water Books

This Saturday, thousands of fans will pack Michigan Stadium for a rousing game of football. And it doesn't involve any Wolverines.

The game will pit two superstar English soccer teams in the International Champions Cup — Manchester United versus Liverpool — against each other.

Gary France grew up on the northwest coast of England before moving to Michigan. That move did not dim his love for his team, Manchester United. He writes about his quest to stay connected to Manchester United from this side of the pond in his memoir Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of United.

France joined Stateside to preview the match, discuss the history of the rivalry, and sing a celebratory fight song.
