A Genesee County judge will decide on December 7th whether Michigan's chief medical executive Dr. Eden Wells will stand trial for alleged crimes related to the Flint water crisis. Dr. Wells has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for not informing the public promptly about an outbreak of Legionnaire's disease.
Some researchers have linked that outbreak with the water crisis.
Michele Swanson is a microbiologist with the University of Michigan. She says the same switch in water supply source that resulted in lead contamination also reduced levels of chlorine in the water.
"Our data applies statistical tools and shows that the risk of getting a Legionnaires' case in a particular neighborhood was a function of how much chlorine was in the water in that neighborhood," says Swanson.
Wells has also been charged with obstruction of justice and lying to a peace officer.
