Flint's housing market tagged as one of the nation's fastest recovering from the recession

Steve Carmody/Michigan Radio

A new report lists Flint as one of the nation’s fastest recovering housing markets.

Realty Trac is out with a list of the best and worst recovering housing markets in the country.   And for a change, Flint is not on the worst list.

Daren Bloomquist is with Realty Trac. He says the nation’s housing industry has clearly shifted into recovery mode during the past 18 months. Bloomquist says one of the best recovering housing markets is in Flint.

“We’re showing a 64% increase (in home prices) from the bottom of the market… That’s one of the big strengths we’re seeing,” says Bloomquist.

Bloomquist notes that Flint’s foreclosure filings have plummeted 85% from their highs during the recession.

He suggests it’s wrong that Flint is often pigeon-holed as a bad housing market given its improving numbers.

Realty Trac ranks Rochester, New York as the nation’s best recovering housing market.

Baltimore, Maryland is at the bottom of the list.
