Gas prices this week are the lowest they've been in two years for the Thanksgiving holiday. On average, prices around the state are $2.49 a gallon--12 cents lower than last week. That's according to a survey of 4200 gas stations by AAA Michigan.

Nancy Cain is a spokesperson for AAA. She says the low prices will help motorists budget their holiday travel.  "We got low crude oil prices and very ample supply, there's no gasoline shortages anywhere. So that's translating into good news at the pump," says Cain.

Crude oil prices have dropped to around $56 a barrel, contributing to low prices at the pump in Michigan.

Outside of the Thanksgiving holiday, gas prices are the lowest since February in Michigan. Prices are only 7 cents more than the year's lowest daily average price of $2.42 per gallon. The most expensive gas prices per gallon were found in Marquette ($2.71), Ann Arbor ($2.59), and Traverse City ($2.55). The least expensive gas was found in the Grand Rapids area ($2.34), Benton Harbor ($2.38), and Jackson ($2.40).

Nearly 1.6 million Michigan residents are expected to be on the road over the holiday weekend. By that time, prices are projected to fall another five cents per gallon.
