Dr. Jeff Masters of Weather Underground joined us today. He said 1974 marked the last single-day snowfall of this magnitude.

Now it's 40 years later and we’re looking towards the rest of the week:  Masters said we can expect a few more little snowstorms. Tuesday night is forecasted to bring an inch or two and Friday to bring around an inch. Sunday, however, may bring another 4-6 inches, he said.

And ironically, today – the day of shoveling through 16.7 inches of snow – is Groundhog Day.

The verdict? Six more weeks of winter, as the groundhog did indeed see his shadow.
