Thomas Holt is a professor of criminal justice at Michigan State University. He explores these questions in a recent article on TheConversation.com. When sensitive information is stolen, many corporations and individuals can be blackmailed into paying huge sums of money to keep the information private or to avoid future cyber attacks.
