How family tragedy, Iranian heritage influenced the work of National Student Poet

Aug 10, 2018

At the Library of Congress later this month, five teenagers from across the country will be honored as National Student Poets.

Among those five is Darius Atefat-Peckham, a senior at Interlochen Arts Academy.

As a National Student Poet, Atefat-Peckham will serve as a literary ambassador for the Midwest region, helping other young people to find their own literary voice.

Listen above to hear Atefat-Peckham read his poem, “The Sufi Woman," talk about his current poetry reading list, and describe how his late mother and Iranian-American heritage inspire his creative passions.

This post was written by production assistant Gabrielle Horton.
