Widespread power outages in Metro Detroit and around Lansing continue this morning following the ice storm over the weekend.

A quarter of a million DTE Energy customers in Metro Detroit are still without power after the weekend ice storm.

That's down from 370,000. The company says it expects 90 percent of its customers to have power restored by the end of the day tomorrow.

Consumers Energy says about 8,000 customers still have no power. Most of them are south and west of Lansing.

Meanwhile, a power outage has temporarily shut down a controversial oil-and-gas pipeline that runs underwater where Lakes Huron and Michigan meet.

Enbridge Energy owns and operates the Line 5 pipeline underneath the Straits of Mackinac.

Yesterday, waves topped 12 feet in the straits.

In an agreement made with Governor Rick Snyder last fall, Enbridge said it would shut down Line 5 if waves exceed 8 feet.

In a statement, Enbridge said the underwater pipeline will remain down until severe weather improves.
