The Michigan Department of Transportation announced yesterday that "nearly all freeways" have been reopened after record-breaking flooding in metro Detroit this past Monday (August 11).
Today we hear news that two lanes of I-94 will close because of pavement buckling that might be related to Monday's downpour.
The right two lanes on eastbound I-94 near Warren Ave. will be closed according to the Detroit News.

According to MDOT, the buckling is likely to be related to Monday’s extremely heavy rains that submerged the freeway for more than a day. “We didn’t have any initial problems on the freeway when we got the water off and reopened all the roads on Wednesday, but we now have an issue at Interstate 94 at Warren,” said MDOT spokeswoman Diane Cross. “We are closing the right two lanes shortly to repair and that will leave only the left lane open. It’s unknown how long it will be blocked.”
Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes.
In their press release, MDOT said early cleanup costs associated with the flooding are expected to cost $500,000. Repair costs, like this one, have not been estimated yet.
