First-time home buyers in Michigan may have a harder time than people in other states finding down payment assistance.
A study findsnationally 87% of homes on the market would qualify for a down payment program available in the county where they are located.
But the report says there are fewer programs in Michigan than in most other states.
Rob Crane is with Down Payment Resource. He says the problem is particularly acute in rural northern Michigan.
But Crane says, while there may be fewer programs in parts of Michigan, they do exist.
“There are plenty of opportunities for everybody in the state,” says Crane.
Crane says there are several state programs that can help.
