A Michigan State University political scientist is predicting we could see the largest voter turnout for a mid-term election in Michigan in 20 years.
Prof. Corwin Smidt hasn’t been looking at polling or political campaign commercials.
He’s been studying state voter records.
Smidt is predicting more than 4.2 million Michiganders will vote in tomorrow's election. That would be more than 57% of registered voters.
He points to the August primary as an indicator of what to expect at the polls.
“Given that so many voters voted in August, we should expect turnout to be high,” says Smidt.
Smidt says if voter turnout isn’t as high as his prediction, the blame rests with candidates and campaigns not being able to sustain voter interest.
