Michigan nurses say state hospitals are not ready to handle a case of Ebola.
Despite recent assurances by Michigan hospital administrators and Gov. Rick Snyder that the state is prepared for a case of Ebola, the state’s largest nurses union disagrees.
Two Texas nurses have tested positive for Ebola, after treating a patient from West Africa, who recently died from the disease.
A statement from the Michigan Nurses Association says “it is imperative that Michigan leaders use lessons from what happened in Texas to better protect nurses and prevent the spread of this life-threatening disease here.”
The nurses’ union says more equipment, training, and staffing are needed to safely care for Ebola patients.
Yesterday, a hospital near Metro Airport conducted a drillto test its ability to isolate and treat as many as 20 Ebola patients.
