It's been a month since a pipeline leak spewed about a million gallons of crude oil into the Kalamazoo River. Clean-up crews have spent the past four weeks collecting oil from the river and removing contaminated soil.

Mark Durno with the EPA says they are now turning their attention to what's below the river's surface, "we've initiated an assessment program this week, to do a thorough characterization of the river bottom and determine how much of the sediment in that river may be impacted."
Major clean-up operations are expected to wrap up near the end of September. The pipeline may undergo a key pressure test between now and Monday. Federal regulators may approve restarting the oil pipeline, if that test goes well.
The cause of the pipeline break is still under investigation.
