The 2010 Census was a momentous one for Michigan.
The numbers showed the state actually lost population between 2000 and 2010.
It was the only state in the Union to show a drop, and it was something that had never happened before in Michigan.
Now, the latest numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau show the population continues to dip, albeit slowly.

Michigan continued to lead the nation in population loss since the 2010 U.S. Census, according to new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, though the decline is slight. The state lost 7,400 residents, or -0.08 percent, between the decennial count on April 1, 2010, and July 1, 2011, the bureau reported today. "The new estimates generally show slower growth in states that are gaining population, and slower decline in states that are losing population," Michigan state demographer Kenneth Darga said.
So now the state is down to 9,876,240 people.
