Rebecca Scherm shatters expectations with new novel

Rebecca Scherm

Last week, we told you about Rebecca Scherm, an emerging Ann Arbor author who has broken into the literary scene with her novel Unbecoming

As Kate Wells explains:

"It’s a Gone Girl-esque psychological thriller about what happens when a young woman’s perfect performance of Southern, girl-next-door femininity shatters and a crime she commits sends her on the run and both her husband and her lover to prison. But unlike Gillian Flynn or Patricia Highsmith (of The Talented Mr. Ripley), Scherm's anti-herione, Grace, isn't a psychopath. She's much more interesting than that."

Above, Rebecca Scherm talks about what it took to write her first novel, the intriguing characters in this suspense story and how she drew inspiration from Hollywood's great femme fateles.

Scherm will be at Literati Bookstore in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, January 27th at 7:00 p.m.

Stateside is produced daily by a dedicated group of producers and production assistants. Listen daily, on-air, at 3 and 8 p.m., or subscribe to the daily podcast wherever you like to listen.
