For the very first time in more years than just about anyone can remember, things seem to be lining up in favor of immigration reform.

President Obama has put his framework for reform on the table, and a bi-partisan group of Senators now dubbed "the gang of eight" have has put its framework out there.

The Senators say they hope to introduce legislation in March or April and then hold a vote by late spring or early summer.

The action on the Federal front has prompted Governor Snyder to release his statement on immigration reform.

Among his thoughts:

"For America to be competitive in the 21st century, it's critical that we implement an effective system for legal immigration....Our current immigration system is inflexible and broken. It has hurt our economy....In Michigan we know we must continue to welcome innovators, entrepreneurs and skilled workers from around the world...."

We take a deeper look at the immigration reform debates happening here in Michigan with State Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit), and University of Michigan professor of political science Nick Valentino.
