"If this is the longest shutdown in history, let this be the shutdown that ends all shutdowns." U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin says she'd support outlawing future government shutdowns.

Today on Stateside, U.S. Representative Elissa Slotkin (D-Holly) tells us what she thinks it will take to end the longest partial federal government shutdown in United States history, now in its fifth week.  Plus, we hear about some up-and-coming artists in the Detroit's music scene, and say goodbye to a legendary guitarist from the city.

  • The group of chemicals known as PFAS, or per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances, have been found in groundwater and drinking water supplies across Michigan. But are the chemicals also making it into the air we breathe? Jamie DeWitt is a toxicologist at East Carolina University. She joined Stateside to talk about what we know about PFAS emissions in our air, why there's been so little research into the risks of airborne PFAS, and what most concerns her as a researcher.
