It was one of the most jubilant days in history.
VE Day: the end of the Second World War in Europe.
David Kiley of Ann Arbor has a unique link to that historic day 70 years ago.
His father Charles Kiley was a reporter for the Stars and Stripes, the newspaper for the American military.
Kiley was the only reporter present as the Germans and General Eisenhower's staff hammered out terms of Germany's surrender.
And he was one of the 17 reporters who witnessed the signing of the terms.
David Kiley's cover story "The Crowded Hour" is in the May/June issue of World War II Magazine.
His new book is called Writing The War: Chronicles of a WW2 Correspondent.
XXXThere will be a celebration of the 70th Anniversary of VE Day this coming Friday, May 8th in Royal Oak.
It's a chance to pay respects and say thanks to the Michiganders who served in the war and on the home front.
