Election Day

Michigan voters will elect a new Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General and two state Supreme Court justices today. All of the state's fifteen U.S. Congressional seats are also up for election. State elections officials estimate a little less than 4 million of the state's 7 million registered voters will cast ballots. At least 575,000 people have already voted absentee.

GM Finalizing Plans for IPO

General Motors could begin selling shares of GM Co. stock at prices between $26 and $29, according to two people briefed on the matter. The U.S. government is expected to reduce its stake in the company from 61% to around 43% with the sale. Terms of the stock sale have not been finalized yet as GM's board still needs to approve them.

Kalamazoo River Oil Cleanup Deadline Met

Enbridge Energy, the company responsible for the July oil spill near Marshall, MI has met another cleanup deadline set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports that the EPA , "notified Enbridge in late September that it had to clean up all areas of major submerged oil contamination by Oct. 31. The EPA said Monday that the company met the deadline." The spill leaked more than 800,000 gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River.
