Michigan Radio is proud of its legacy of excellence in reporting. The Michigan Radio news team has been recognized with more than 45 awards from numerous organizations including the award for General Excellence from the Michigan Associated Press, and Station of the Year Award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. Michigan Radio has also received national awards from the Public Radio News Directors, Inc., Radio Television Digital News Association, UNITY: Journalists of Color, and the Association for Women in Communications.

Michigan Radio - State of Opportunity Recognized by Michigan Association of Broadcasters

Michigan Radio received eleven awards last night from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for achievement in broadcasting during 2014.  Several of the awards recognized Michigan Radio’s State of Opportunity project, the station’s multi-year initiative looking at what can be done to improve opportunities for Michigan’s most disadvantaged children.

Michigan Radio received five first place “Best in Category” awards and six Merit awards in recognition of the station’s feature reporting, news series and news special/public affairs programs, in addition to other categories.

Merit Awards

The Broadcast Excellence Awards program recognizes outstanding achievement in broadcasting by Michigan television and radio stations each year. All entries aired between January 1 and December 31, 2014. Michigan Radio competes in Group 2 of the Broadcast Excellence Award Divisions, which is for stations with more than $2 million budget. The awards were announced Wednesday evening at the MAB’s annual Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference in Lansing.
