Issues & Ale - Summer of Rebellion: Looking Back at Detroit 1967
Mon, July 17, 2017; 6:30-8:00 PM
Northern Lights Lounge
660 W. Baltimore St
Detroit, MI 48202
Host: Lester Graham
This July marks the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Detroit uprising, a civil disturbance that turned into one of the deadliest and most destructive riots in the history of the United States. The uprising resulted in dozens of deaths, thousands arrested, and National Guard and U.S. Army units deployed to patrol the streets of Detroit.
Join Michigan Radio host and reporter Lester Graham and a panel of experts as we discuss the causes and effects of this major event in Detroit’s history, the recommendations of the Kerner Commission Report on Civil Disorders, which investigated the root causes of race riots across the U.S., and what's changed (or hasn’t) since those hot, angry days in July, 1967.
