On Twitter's birthday, everyone is retweeting their first tweets

Today is Twitter's 8th birthday.

Naturally, everyone is celebrating by participating in self-indulgent retweets of the first thing they ever said.

Here's ours from early 2009.

We were about three years late to the game. Since then, we've managed to find over 17,100 things to tell you on Twitter.

According to The Detroit Free Press, the first tweet was published on March 21, 2006. Jack Dorsey, Twitter's co-founder, poetically wrote, "Just setting up my twtr."
