So much so that they're apparently taking it out on statues now.

Google "Columbus statue vandalism" and you'll drum up all manner of news stories about statues where people have expressed their opinion of the Italian explorer.

Today, it was Detroit's turn.

More from the Detroit Free Press:

The statue, located at Jefferson and Randolph right next to city hall, has been splashed with fake blood, and a hatchet has been taped to his forehead as if it had just been struck. It was not clear when exactly the statue was vandalized. Detroit police were still looking into the incident when contacted at around 2:30 p.m.

The Detroit News reports the hatchet has since been removed and police say they might review camera footage in the area as part of their investigation.

Each Columbus Day it seems more people are asking "why is this still a thing?"
