During her more than seven years on Stateside, Cynthia Canty has interviewed thousands of guests. In her last week as host, she wanted to bring back some of the most interesting guests—the ones she says she’d invite to her dream dinner party. Two of those interesting guests are writers Keith Taylor and Desiree Cooper.
Taylor is a poet, writer, and teacher who retired from the University of Michigan, where he taught creative writing for many years, in 2018. His poems, stories, book reviews, translations and feature articles have been published in magazines, journals and newspapers in North America and Europe.
Cooper is a Kresge Artist Fellow, a writer and poet, Pulitzer-prize nominated journalist, community activist in Detroit, and the author of the short story collection Know the Mother.
