Macomb County executive Mark Hackel says a privately owned casino could boost business along the county's waterfront on Lake St. Clair.  The Macomb Daily reports: Mark Hackel said he plans to reach out to local communities to see who might be interested.

A new casino could require the approval of Michigan voters, as well as other state or federal approval, depending on details of how it might be run. There already is gambling at casinos in nearby Detroit .

Hackel appeared on Detroit radio station WWJ to talk about his casino idea:

“Can you imagine the opportunities for something like that? We would blow everything else out of the water.”  Hackel says he is now asking the locals “Who wants that opportunity?” He says: “Can you imagine the summertime events that could be put on by having a marina casino? It would truly transform that lakefront.”
