Gasoline prices are expected to take another big leap this week in Michigan.

Gas prices are down as Michigan residents get ready to travel for the holidays. Prices at the pump are at a two-year low for a holiday season.

Nancy Cain is a spokesperson for AAA Michigan. She says prices shouldn't change much over the next couple of weeks.

“They might even still come down a bit. So if you’re driving and you see a good price, you know, look for it and if you see it fill up,” Cain said.

Cain says lower crude oil prices have contributed to the drop in gas prices.

“And since it’s low and there’s ample supply, it’s helping Michigan motorists to enjoy the lowest gas prices that we’ve seen for Christmas in two years,” she said.

Some 3.6 million Michigan residents are expected to travel between Christmas and New Year’s – the highest projection for Michigan travel since 2001.

“We really encourage everyone: Drive safely, pay attention to your driving, put down the cell phone and don’t be tempted to text," Cain said. "Just pay attention to your driving."
