Jimmy Fallon made it famous, but local celebrities will make Lip Sync matter! The Celebrity Lip Sync Battle, hosted by New Day Foundation for Families, will feature eight local celebrity teams competing on behalf of a New Day family who is facing cancer.
Staging their performances with hip choreography and iconic costuming, these celebrities will pull out all the stops to win. Performances will be critiqued by celebrity judges and voted on electronically by audience members. Battling it out will be:
• Kim DeGiulio, WDIV TV 4 reporter
• Brooke Fletcher - Bally Sports
• Erin Nicole – former WXYZ traffic reporter
• JoAnne Purtan – WOMC, 104.3 FM
• Blaine Fowler Morning Show – WDVD, 96.3 FM
• Jackie Paige, WWJ Newsradio 950
• Andy Dirks – Detroit Tigers 2011 - 2013
• Earl Cureton - Detroit Pistons 1983 - 1986
Sportscaster Justin Rose, recent host of the WXYZ 7 Sports Cave, will lead the mayhem as emcee of the Lip Sync Battle. Celebrity judges WDIV Anchor Evrod Cassimy, Channel 955’s Mojo in the Morning and Paul Glantz, founder and chairman of Emagine Theatres, will provide commentary and critique of the outlandish performances from the judges’ panel. Ultimately, the audience will decide by popular vote which team will be crowned as the victor in this epic celebrity showdown!
Don’t miss out on this night of outrageous fun, classic dance moves and more – all to benefit families facing cancer. The event will be live streamed and patrons may register to watch from home for free, as well as bid in the silent auction.
Bring the family for food, fun, auctions and more! Proceeds from the event will benefit New Day Foundation for Families, whose mission is to alleviate financial toxicity and emotional stress while improving treatment outcomes for families facing cancer.
“We’re expecting some wild and crazy performances from our celebrity partners,” said Gina Kell Spehn, president and co-founder of New Day Foundation. “They’re digging deep creatively to win for their New Day family. It’s going to be lots of laughs and good times for the whole family. The trash talking has already started, so you know we’re in for a fun time.”
One of the families participating in the event is Unjanai Thomas of Redford, a single mother of three young children, including one-year-old twins. Thomas was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in February and was forced to leave her job due to her treatment and its side effects. As a result, she was behind in rent and utilities. Having since moved in with her parents, New Day is now helping her with the basic necessities of food and clothing for her children, car maintenance and gas costs to get to treatment and more.
