"Milk is a good deal right now at the stores," Wolf said, but milk producers are struggling.

Michigan's dairy cows are doing their job like rock stars.

They're pumping out milk — so much milk, in fact, that Michigan is among the top milk-producing states in the country.

But it's more milk than can be processed, and, at the same time, Michigan's got the lowest milk prices in the country.

All of that is causing big headaches for Michigan's dairy farmers.

Christopher Wolf, a professor of agricultural, food and resource economics at Michigan State University, joined Stateside to explain the issue to us.

Listen above to learn about the scale of the problem, the implications these low prices have in the milk industry, and what's being done about it for farmers.
