Northwestern Michigan College is planning to increase security on campus in the coming months.
The project is expected to cost around 20 thousand dollars and will include a new lock system for all classrooms.
Andy Dolan is with Northwestern Michigan College. He says increasing security will promote a sense of safety that students and staff want to experience on campus.
“When students go to a place like a college campus they kind of expect that they are going to be safe there and we are doing our best to make sure that they are.”
Dolan says the new lock system is just one feature of the project. The school is also installing a system that can send out voice messages to more than 800 phones on campus within minutes during emergency situations.
Security advancements at Northwestern Michigan College are expected to begin at the end of the month.
