Monster trucks may be an incentive for thousands of Detroit Public School students to get to class next Wednesday.

Every one of the district’s 47,000 Students will receive two tickets to an upcoming monster truck show at Ford Field.

DPS spokesman Steve Wasko says the ticket giveaway is a sign of support in the community for Detroit schools.

“It wasn’t that the district went out and found the Monster Jam organizers. They contacted us,” says Wasko. “To the extent that count day provides an opportunity for others in the community to step up and be part of positive attendance campaigns, that’s always a good thing.”

Next Wednesday is count day, when schools tally student attendance for the purpose of calculating state aid.
