Michigan reps say they don't want Canada to store nuclear waste near Great Lakes
Michigan Congressional representatives have introduced a resolution to oppose storing nuclear waste near the Great Lakes.
The resolution was introduced by Representatives Dan Kildee and John Moolenaar, along with Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters.
It’s not the first time a resolution like it has been introduced in Congress.
For years, there have been proposals in Canada to build permanent storage facilities for nuclear waste near Lake Huron. Two separate proposals are currently in the works.
For now, the waste is stored on site at nuclear facilities. One current storage area is at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, near Lake Huron.
