After shooting, Kalamazoo area non-profits offer model for emergency response
Within 48 hours of the tragic shootings this February, the Kalamazoo area community responded. Individuals and business within the community began to give money to help. But how could they make sure their money was being used most effectively?
The Help Now! Fund was founded in order to effectively facilitate support to the victims, their families and the community at large. The Fund is a collaboration of multiple non-profits within and near the Kalamazoo County area, and it could serve as a model for other communities when they must respond to emergencies.
Carrie Pickett-Erway, President and CEO of the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, joined Stateside to discuss the origin and goals of the Help Now! Fund.
