National expert offers tips to take back control during an active shooter situation
A former police officer and SWAT team leader didn't believe traditional lockdown drills gave students the knowledge they needed to survive. So, he developed an active shooter training program called ALICE: Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. Over 4,000 school districts have had ALICE training.
Greg Crane is the founder of the ALICE training program and ALICE Training Institute. Crane trains schools, businesses, agencies, and others in ways to react during an active shooter situation.
Crane joined Stateside to discuss what he believes is essential in an effective active shooter training. He also gives his thoughts on arming teachers, and reviews reactions to active shooters in high-profile situations such as the Reagan assassination attempt.
