Carneiro says that a radio station is more feasible for other tribes since they tend to be more centralized than the Pokagon Band. This podcast aims to serve the same purpose of connecting community while remaining accessible.

Kyla Carneiro, the Digital Communication Specialist for the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, joined Stateside to tell us about the tribe's podcast, Yajmownen, which she hosts and produces.

The tribe makes its home in Southwest Michigan and Northeastern Indiana. The podcast's name translates to "stories," which is exactly what it aims to share.

Listen above for the full conversation to hear where the idea for the podcast came from, what kind of stories are featured on the show, and the impact the show is having in the community.

Support for arts and culture coverage comes in part from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
