Report: Wayne County can seize your home no matter how much you owe in taxes
The first line of Sarah Alvarez's report in Bridge Magazine packs quite a punch: "Antoinette Coleman lost her home for less than the cost of an iPhone."
That price tag was just $291 to be exact.
The report takes a very close look at life in Wayne County — the national leader in tax foreclosure — seizing and then selling more than 150,000 properties in Detroit over the past 15 years.
Alvarez, founder of Outlier Media, joined Stateside to discuss her report.
Listen above to hear Antoinette Coleman's story of foreclosure, what Wayne County stands to gain in the tax auctions, and how the county is trying to address foreclosure issues with residents.
