Detroit police make arrests, seize drugs and guns
DETROIT - Law enforcement officials in Detroit say they have arrested dozens of people and seized illegal weapons and drugs in a coordinated enforcement effort.
The Detroit Police Department said in a press release Wednesday that the effort dubbed "Operation Wild Turkey" focused on two precincts on the city's east side. City police worked with state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Officials say the goal of the Tuesday operation was targeting people who have outstanding arrest warrants, participate in the sale of illegal drugs and possess illegal firearms. Five guns were seized and about 60 people were arrested, 42 of whom for felonies.
Drugs seized included cocaine, heroin, marijuana and assorted pills. They have a street value of about $52,000.
