Michigan State Police raid Dearborn City Clerk's office
The Dearborn City Clerk’s office was raided by the Michigan State Police today.
State police are saying little about the raid.
“I can confirm that the Second District Special Investigation Section did serve a search warrant today at the Dearborn City Hall as part of an ongoing embezzlement investigation,” says 1st Lt. Michael A. Shaw. “We are not making any further statements as to the nature of the investigation at this time.”
A city spokeswoman says Dearborn officials are cooperating with the investigation.
“The state police are in charge of this investigation and we don’t have details at this point, but we are cooperating fully with them,” says Deputy City Attorney Laurie Ellerbrake. “If there is a problem, we want it to be addressed thoroughly. And if there isn’t an issue, we want to make sure that that news is understood as well.”
Detectives arrived around 10 a.m. and left before 11 a.m. A city spokeswoman says the office continued to serve people while police served the warrant. Detectives were later seen leaving the building carrying boxes.
